Sorry to chime in so late but this unit does not have antifreeze in it. At 28 loop temp this unit should not freeze. The ice is 32 so there is still heat.
I have a system we installed which I think has a loop problem with the loop reaching 25 degrees, lockout will occur at 10 degrees. I was afraid at that temp the bills would get high. I plan on checking when the air is turned on and 1 month later check loops again. I have a feeling one or more loops are not funtioning.
The zoning controls as follows: Second stage compressor comes on and then resistance heat when all zones call and temperature drops in plenum below set point. But having said all this the house is 4500 square feet, 5 ton with 20 kw supplement and the bills have been no higher than $120.
Has any one checked the duct work also to see what is actually delivered in BTU's to the home. If the load is 50k and we are getting 30k (is that right) a little supplement won't drive the bills that high. 50k I would assume is at design temp.

This site is all about building a cool, energy efficient house, that makes maximum use of earth sheltered design, passive solar heating and cooling, geothermal exchange energy management, and right sizing of the house for it's designated use. The home's placement is on a south-facing hillside in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. This site describes the design process, the technologies used and the expected results. We also have a comprehensive Links Page for anyone who is also interested in designing a similar project.
