roof pitch [ Read Responses | Post a New Response | Return to the Index ]
Posted by Kate on Saturday, 26 April 2008, at 3:54 p.m. Hi! I have another question too, I notice the pitch of your roof is relatively flat. Since I also live in a climate with lots of snow, I wonder how your roof is with snow on it our house, one part of our roof has a flat-ish pitch. What happens to us is: snow builds up on the roof and then as it melts (both from the sun and b/c the house is heated in winter) and freezes (b/c the temp drops at night) it creates ice dams. The ice dams force icy water into the floor in our hallway. This is a pain, and requires that we get out on the roof and shovel the snow off that flat-ish part periodically when there is a lot of snow. o you guys have to shovel your roof? Does the snow build up or fall off? Any leaking? Thanks! Responses

This site is all about building a cool, energy efficient house, that makes maximum use of earth sheltered design, passive solar heating and cooling, geothermal exchange energy management, and right sizing of the house for it's designated use. The home's placement is on a south-facing hillside in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. This site describes the design process, the technologies used and the expected results. We also have a comprehensive Links Page for anyone who is also interested in designing a similar project. |
