regarding the coldflowac heat pump here is the end (i hope) of the story:
unit was not low on freon, added per factory instructions, both suction & head pressures increased 'til finally kinked off on high press.
factory agreed to take unit back & repair which is not their normal policy; they were very nice to deal with but so busy- hard to contact.
unit returned three months later (4-21-08). alas it was a little worse than before:86psi suction, 152psi head. contacted factory again & after only two phone calls they said to ship back at their expense for a refund (from buyunit.com-company bought from.)
did notice unit had a 3&1/2 to 5 ton txv instead of a two ton. this would explain a lot but factory tech said that's how they build them.
also had an 18,000btu copeland scroll instead of a 24,000 as it is rated, which may not matter.
overall quality of the COLDFLOWAC appeared very good: copeland scroll,parker-hannifin txv, stainless steel cabinet, easily maintainable controls.
i really wanted this to work & invested approx $700 in setup & diagnostic equipment. may go to gas furnace & build my own grd water h. pump.
This site is all about building a cool, energy efficient house,
that makes maximum use of earth sheltered design, passive solar heating and cooling,
geothermal exchange energy management, and right sizing of the house for it's designated use.
The home's placement is on a south-facing hillside in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland.
This site describes the design process, the technologies used and the expected results.
We also have a comprehensive Links Page for anyone who is also interested in designing a
