Well that was a frustrating 3 1/2 hours.
We are back up and running, although I still don't know what the actual solution was.
Basically all the perl scripts on my site stopped running at the same time this morning. I suspect some automated update, but I can't be sure until support gets back to me. Resetting the server did not help, in fact it delayed the process by an hour or so.
Sorry for the data interruption.
