Loss of temp sensors due lighting. [ Read Responses | Return to the Index ]
Posted by Bob on Sunday, 28 June 2009, at 3:24 p.m. I agree Don B. about the lack of board traffic... Here is some thing to discuss. About a month ago we had a t-storm and took a near lighting strike (200 ft) which knock out 20 of my 24 temperature sensors. I did not realize this for a few days since we were between the heating/cooling season. At first I thought I had a short but after breaking the 1-wire bus into segments to troubleshoot, I realize these sensors were fried. The four remaining sensor were the inside/outside air temp and the upper/lower DHW tank (plastic Marathon). The following is the layout of the 1-wire network... [WEL]----[T-StatMonitor]----+-+--[GSHP-Sensors]
Yesterday I start with the repairs since we our just starting to enter the cooling season. I had bought a 1-wire (RJ-11) USB adapter and tested each of the fried sensor using the Dallas 1-wire Viewer.
Today I updated my WEL configuration with the new addresses and connected the breadboard to the WEL 1-wire network. This week I will be soldering the leads to the thermistors and install them on the heat pump. Any one else lost temp sensor to lighting? Bob G. Responses
This site is all about building a cool, energy efficient house, that makes maximum use of earth sheltered design, passive solar heating and cooling, geothermal exchange energy management, and right sizing of the house for it's designated use. The home's placement is on a south-facing hillside in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. This site describes the design process, the technologies used and the expected results. We also have a comprehensive Links Page for anyone who is also interested in designing a similar project. |
