Designer Showcase: Jump Page
Everyone deserves a place to showcase their design. This is it.

This page is only useful to contributors that have requested a Designer Showcase on OurCoolHouse.com.  Showcases are reserved for individuals (or groups) who are designing (or have designed) residences for the own use.  If you'd like to contribute a green/efficient design concept or just document your experiences, contact me (Phil) at ideas@OurCoolHouse.com

Existing Contributors: Choose the function you wish to perform:

  1. Upload Images for your showcase.
  2. Update Text on your showcase.

Instructions: Your Designer Showcase is constructed using two steps.

Step 1) Uploading Images.

The first step is uploading images (if you have any).  Although it's helpful to do this first, it may be done repeatedly at any time during the development of your page.  Images may also be deleted once they are no longer required.  Click on the Upload Images link.  You will be prompted for your User name and Password each session.

At the top of the Upload page is a single text box with a Browse button. Click browse, and select the image you want to upload (From your hard drive), then click Upload. If the image is successfully uploaded, it will be displayed along with it's name and properties.  You may continue to upload more images, or return to this menu page.

At the bottom of the Upload page is a list of your current images.  Follow the instructions on the page if you wish to delete any of these images.  It's appreciated if unused images are deleted to conserve server space.  Also remember that images do not need to be overly large to work well on a web page.  Certainly no images should be wider than 800 pixels, and if the image is to be beside text then it would be best to keep the image width to less than 350 pixels.

Note: If you want to have a thumbnail image on your page that links to a larger image, upload two images: A small one called anything you like (eg: image1.jpg), and another one with the text "_big" at the end of the same name (eg: image1_big.jpg).  Then if you put the small image on your page, it will automatically link to the larger image.

Once several images have been uploaded, return to this Menu page to proceed with Updating Text.

Step 2) Update Text.

All of the text for your Showcase is entered using the Update Text page.  Click the link to enter the page.  Read the instructions at the top of the page.

There are several fixed text entry boxes at the top of the page.  These are used for entering basic page Showcase info. like showcase title, your name (and email) and an intro paragraph.  Below this are blocks of data entry boxes that will replicate as you construct the body of your showcase page.

Each repeating block of text boxes represents a SECTION of your showcase.  You can have any number of sections in your Showcase.  The Update Text page starts out with TWO empty Sections for you to fill in.  Each time you click the "Update"  button, the page will be refreshed with a blank Section at the top and bottom of your current content. You can also INSERT blank Sections within your existing Showcase.

Note: Any of your sections can contain a link to another web page.  Use the Link URL and Link Text to assemble a link.

When you click Done, the window will be closed and you will be taken to your Showcase page.  You can hit the Back button to return to the Update Text page to refine your text.  Once your Showcase has enough content to be made public, just email me and I'll create a link from the main site.

How you use these sections to create your showcase will depend totally on you.  I've provide a simple example showcase that uses THREE sections to build the body of the page.

All showcases can be reached with the simple URL format:  www.ourcoolhouse.com/showcasename

The User Name for the sample showcase is "sample", so, the showcase's URL is http://www.OurCoolHouse.com/sample
